Happy New Year!

We’ve arrived at the end of another year and the beginning of a new one. Historically, we’ve done articles reminding everyone of the basics of selling and why it is important to take the time to review the fundamentals. This year I thought I would share my New Years Resolutions that salespeople should consider.
- Resolve to satisfy each and every customer: Sometimes satisfying them will not end in a sale; but if this is your goal, then you will make more sales then you lose.
- Resolve to smile: It’s amazing what a simple gesture like a smile can do and it takes very little effort.
- Resolve to send thank you notes: Especially if you are selling large ticket items, take the time to write thank you notes. They will pay off in the long run.
- Resolve to make follow up calls: Much like the thank you notes, follow up calls are a great asset and will separate you from the competition.
- Resolve to keep up on product knowledge: It’s easy to get lax in this area, but it so important that salespeople know what they are selling-- inside and out.
- Resolve to solve your customer’s issues, problems or concerns: Customers, at one point or another, are going to have issues either during or after the sale. Take the time to understand the issues and do everything in your power to solve them.
- Resolve to get away: It’s important that you take time for you and your family during the year. A happy salesperson is one who finds balance between work and home.
- Resolve to be a team player: Yes, selling is a competitive business but don’t be afraid to assist a coworker. They may return the favor to you at some point.
- Resolve to have fun: Sales is our profession, but it should also be fun. If you are having fun, chances are your customers are having fun and if they are having fun, then the odds of them buying increase.
Every New Year brings new opportunities; take a few minutes before the New Year begins to make sure you are in the best position to take advantage of your opportunities. Happy New Year to you all!
