A Good Cause!

It is not often that I use this venue to promote different issues or causes that are not sales related. However, with both Passover and Easter this week I thought this to be appropriate. A friend of mine in the jewelry business is doing some great work to help his community that has taken a toll since Hurricane Rita. The press release follows. If you would like to help, a great cause and enjoy some terrific recipes - Give Brian a call.
Beaumont, TX - Alter's Gem Jewelry is supporting the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund with the introduction of its first cookbook, "Gems to Enjoy." "Many parts of our community have been struggling since Hurricane Rita," said Managing Owner Brian Alter. "This project is just one more step to revitalizing it."
"Gems to Enjoy" is compiled of more than 270 recipes with contributions from customers, vendors, celebrities, and elected officials. They were invited to contribute a recipe, the story behind it and a photo. Contributors include Jimmy Carter, Barbara Bush, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Mario Batali, Kate Bosworth, Jeff Foxworthy, Rob Reiner, Sybil and David Yurman and many others. The hard-back book, which is registered with the Library of Congress, is printed on FSC Certified Paper. In other words, it is "green."
Alter's Gem Jewelry became a part of the Southeast Texas community in 1915, but has an even longer history of generosity. Founder, Morris L. "Gramps" Jacobs opened the first Gem Jewelry in Port Arthur. From the beginning and through the stock market crash, he offered credit to his customers to ease their financial pain. Just as the company has been passed down through the family, so has the tradition of giving.
"I was born and raised here. I am thrilled to have any opportunity to give back to a community that has been such a big part of my life," Alter said.
"Gems to Enjoy" is available at Alter's Gem Jewelry for only $29.95. Work on the second edition of the cookbook began after Hurricane Ike demolished the Texas coast and has already received recipes from more than 20 U.S. Governors.
For more information about "Gems to Enjoy" or contributions for the second edition, please feel free to contact Alter's Gem Jewelry at (409) 861-3005 or 3155 Dowlen Road in Beaumont.
