If You Think You Can’t, You’re Right!

In the next few weeks many of you will be thinking about and formulating your resolutions for the upcoming year. This is the time of year where I personally reflect back on the past year or several years and think about what I can, want and need to do to improve upon the past. I also use this information to anticipate and plan for the future, and more immediately what can I do in the upcoming year.
In sales, just as in life, sports, relationships, family or any other aspect of our existence, if you think you can’t accomplish a certain level of performance, you are right. You won’t accomplish any of your goals, successful performance, or your dreams if you don’t absolutely believe that you can. The human mind is an incredible tool if you use it. You can accomplish almost anything if you simply put your mind to it.
Many of us can’t carry on an exercise routine for more than a few weeks, while others will make a resolution and carry it on through out their entire life. What is the difference? I believe it is a combination of three things. Dedication, Persistence and Attitude.
Dedication is the commitment that one makes to themselves, their goals and their aspirations. If you don’t dedicate your entire being to accomplishing your goals, in all aspects of your life, then you probably won’t. Persistence is the ability to keep trying even after you have encountered a set back or two. We all know that it is not always possible to succeed the first time we try to accomplish something. It takes an ongoing and consistent effort. Your attitude is the determining factor that will impede your success or allow you to remain dedicated and persistent to your goals and objectives. Decide what you want to accomplish, make your resolution, then make it happen. It may require an attitude adjustment. No one can stop you, except you!
